Samui Green Market - Next One: On June 30th 2024

The regular ‘Samui Green Market’ is a highlight of the island’s social calendar and all in the name of sustainability!

The regular ‘Samui Green Market’ which takes place on the last Sunday of the month at the Green Light Café & Bar in Fisherman’s Village, is a fantastic, festive afternoon out with family and friends and all about highlighting fresh produce locally sourced, and about the environment and healthy living.

The market is hugely popular with locals buying and selling their goods. You will find locally grown fresh food, gourmet take-away . sine, delicious home baked products from local cafes and independent artisans, healthy teas and coffee, organic spa, body and beauty products, candles, artisanal chocolate and confectionary, jewellery by local artists and craftsmen/women, re-cycled clothing and even organic products for pets, and much more.

The young ones love it too, there’s coconuts to be painted and doodle art, amongst other fun and interesting diversions for them to play and socialize.

Meanwhile, there is plenty to entertain the adults, with a delicious menu served by the Green Light Café, tables laid out for visitors to enjoy some of the produce on the premises and of course, there’s a couple of bars for a cooling beer, a cocktail or glass of wine and musical entertainment by top local artists.

No plastic is allowed at the market so bring your own bag for your shopping and support the professionals who are working to help you make healthier choices and to take better care of our planet.

The next Samui Green Market will be held on Sunday June 30th at the Green Light Café & Bar, Fisherman’s Village, Bophut.

Samui Green Market Facebook page also features lots of tips and advice for recycling everyday items. Koh Samui like many islands in the Gulf of Thailand is endeavouring to be plastic free.

The market is a permanent fixture in Samui which thrived during the pandemic when local entrepreneurs and artisans were eager for a platform to sell their products. And it continues to grow in popularity as more visitors get to know about it and enjoy a fun afternoon mingling with locals and enjoying what’s on offer on this beautiful island.

History of the Green Market

The Samui Green Market was founded by long-time Koh Samui resident and entrepreneur Shelley Poplak (photo) together with a group of like-minded friends who came up with the idea of a market to mark Mala Day in 2013 which coincides with the International Day of Peace.

Their vision was to bring the community together with a common goal, and as food is such a key source of diversity on the island it was decided that would be the common denominator.

Opting for the healthy option, they created Samui Green Market.
